Moin from Hamburg

On becoming a Wahl-Hanseat and learning the Hamburg way: no fuss, reliability, and a cool head when the wind blows.

I have lived in Hamburg since 2011, and even though I was not born here, this city has long since made me a Wahl-Hanseat: a Hamburger by choice.

What I value most about the North is the mentality of the people here.

“Wir sind aus Hamburg und nicht aus Zucker” - we are from Hamburg, not made of sugar.

That saying says it all. No fuss, no complaining, just rolling up your sleeves when things get tough.

It is exactly this down-to-earth attitude and the calm way of dealing with challenges that have shaped me over the years. Humility, reliability, and a cool head when the wind blows in your face - that is what I appreciate about this city and its people.
